Question:
What is the difference between RGB and CMYK?
Answer: RGB is typically used by computer monitors, televisions, and digital cameras. A computer monitor uses very small bands of red, green, and blue light to generate color. CMYK is used for printing. Because physical prints such as magazines, posters, and buttons can't generate light like a computer monitor, it has to use reflected light. When you add cyan, magenta, and yellow together (CMY), you get a color close to black, and when you don’t lay down any ink, you get white (the white of the paper). A fourth color, black, is added for economical and practical reasons, and is referred to by ‘K’. By mixing varying amounts of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks, you can create most other colors. All commercial, full-color printing uses CMYK inks. Therefore, when designing your artwork, always design in CMYK mode for the most accurate replica of what the finished product will look like. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the two color modes:

As you can see, some colors can become much duller once changed to CMYK mode. This may or may not have an effect on your artwork.
